September 20, 2011 ASHE Southern New Jersey & North Central Joint Dinner Meeting
September's Dinner meeting was held at the Cranberry Inn, in Cranberry New Jersey. 125 were in attendance and enjoyed an excellent buffet including prime beef, chicken and fish. Rick Hammer, NJDOT's Assistant Commissioner of Capital Program Management, provided the audience with information regarding the Department's anticipated work program for the coming year.

Our annual Golf Outing is set for Thursday, May 5, 2011.
It will held at last year's popular location, Mountain View Golf Course in Ewing. The success of our Golf Outing is due in large part to Sponsor Participation. All proceeds of the Golf Outing will go to our Student Scholarship Program - so please become a sponsor for this year’s Golf Outing!

PROJECT OF THE YEAR
The North-Central New Jersey and Southern New Jersey Section of ASHE invite you to participate in its award program to honor consulting engineering firms, contractors, and transportation officials in their efforts to provide quality roadway facilities in New Jersey.
Our annual Project of the Year awards will be held this year at the Holiday Inn in East Windsor, NJ on Tuesday, April 12th, 2011.
Project of the Year Awards will be given for the following two categories:
· Under $5M Contruction Cost
· Over $5M Construction Cost
There is no cost to submit an entry, and non-winning prior year entries may be resubmitted.
Entries must be submitted no later than March 4, 2011.

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED
Congratulations to the following local civil engineering students selected to receive NCNJ ASHE's Scholarship Awards for 2009:
Our $5000 First Place Scholarship was awarded to Stephanie Chen, currently a Sophomore at Princeton University.
Our $4500 Combined Second Place and Family Member Scholarship award was presented to Anthony Panzarino, a Junior at The College of New Jersey.
Thanks to all applicants for their interest and to the Scholarship Committee for their work in the selection process. Most importantly, thanks are extended to all member firms and other firms who contributed to the Scholarship Fund by means of playing in our annual golf outing and contributing to the outing as sponsors. Please consider continuing your support at this year's event.

Other News:
NJ State Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors Rule Proposal for Continuing Education Requirements
NJ State Board has finally issued draft rules (see web link below) to support the legislation passed in 2010 that requires continuing education for NJ PEs which started on Jan 1, 2011.
….for the renewal period beginning on May 1, 2012 only, proposed new N.J.A.C. 13:40-13.1(b) provides that licensees shall have completed 15 continuing professional competency (CPC) credits, two of which shall have been in professional practice ethics. Licensees may receive credit for the required CPC credits between May 1, 2010 and April 30, 2012.
There is a public comment period which will end on March 3, 2012.
